On Campus

CRLT - Center for Research on Learning and Teaching
The best place on campus to get help being a GSI. CRLT runs the university-wide training sessions and offers a variety of resources from guidebooks to one-on-one consulting. You can even have them observe your classes to get feedback about how to improve your teaching. They run a series of seminars throughout the year that focus on specific aspects of GSI-ing such as leading discussions and motivating students. They've just added a list of web resources too.

GEO - Graduate Employees Union
GEO is a labor union that represents all GSIs and GSSAs at the University. GEO represents GSIs and GSSAs in all collective bargaining activities with the university including contract negotiations. You should read the GSI contract and get to know your rights and responsibilities. We're all required to pay dues, and you can find out more about dues on the GEO website.

CAPS - Counseling and Psychological Services
Students encounter a lot of stress and stressful situations, and CAPS is available to help. GSIs are often some of the first to notice when a student is distressed, and you can refer students to CAPS for support. SI's Academic Affairs staff is also incredibly helpful.

SWC - Sweetland Writing Center
Sometimes students need more help with their writing than you have time, energy, or responsibility to give them. Send your students to Sweetland to get help instead! The Writing Workshop helps students one-on-one, and SWC offers support specifically for GSIs.

ELI - English Language Institute
The ELI offers many resources for students who seek help with their academic English. They offer courses, workshops, one-on-one consultations, clinics, etc. GSIs who would like help with their English and teaching can also contact the ELI for support.
