It produces good looking plots from the start and it doesn't take too much work to make them gorgeous. I've found importing data to be somewhat of a mixed bag, but there are MySQL bindings and it supports Perl scripting (though neither are required for simple plots).
  • ggplot2 Library for R (especially good for data and models already in R.
  • R-It outputs vector based graph files (.ps, .pdf) that handle being resized well.
  • Omni graffle
